Why was Dyson at Clerkenwell Design Week?
Many designers primarily associates Dyson with consumer technology for the home. Our aim was to broaden this perception, positioning Dyson as a partner in aspirational interior and design projects, highlighting our heritage in design engineering. We value the colours, materials, and finishes used in our products to celebrate technologies and functionality, elevating the technology within.

Dyson and Design
Dyson fundamentally believes that form follows function, but that doesn’t mean the design comes second. We use colour to highlight the technology and draw attention to where users typically interact with the machine. Bright red is used in our vacuums for buttons to attach and detach parts, a key point of interaction. The materials we use are also carefully selected to offer strength and lightness. For example, the outer aluminium tube of the Dyson Solarcycle Morph Light is precision-engineered to a depth of just 0.7mm thick. Machined from extruded aluminium, the tube is rotationally punched to achieve the ideal dimensions and width ratio of the apertures, lending a beautiful gradient to the lit effect. Recognising designers’ interest in storytelling, we hoped to convey the Dyson story and its alignment with the design community’s values.
